By mid-December, most of us have received our share of chocolate. The gifts that stay with us are the ones we did not expect: something made by hand, with a story, that tastes of somewhere else and still feels entirely at home on the Christmas table.

Spices that belong to winter

The warm spices of a British Christmas, nutmeg in the custard and spice in the pudding, came to these shores along the same old trade routes as saffron. It is no surprise that a Penda feels so natural in December. Each one is made with Spanish saffron, cardamom and nutmeg, set in gold top jersey milk with pistachios and almonds, and pressed by hand into the shape of a rose.

For whom

A box of six is a thoughtful gift to bring a host on Christmas Eve, to leave for a neighbour, or to give the person who already has everything. It sits beautifully beside the cheese board and the coffee, and is a welcome change after the richness of the Christmas pudding.

When to order

Like everything we make, our Christmas boxes are made to order in small batches, and December fills quickly. We suggest ordering by the first week of December, and earlier if you are planning several gifts. A box of six is £8 for collection, with delivery across North London and Hertfordshire on orders of five boxes or more.
